CBASA Appoints New Chairperson- May 2025

 

 

The Craft Brewers Association South Africa (CBASA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Craig Claassen as its new Chairperson.
 
 A highly respected and active figure in the South African beer community since 2017, Craig brings a wealth of experience, passion, and a proven track record of advocacy and development to this leadership role.
 
Craig’s involvement in the industry is extensive. He is the founder of The Beer Route, an initiative that has been instrumental in fostering beer tourism across the nation. Through strategic partnerships with CBASA and active engagement with government committees and workgroups, he has significantly contributed to the growth and visibility of the craft beer sector.
 
Notably, he has been the driving force behind negotiations for official tourism signage for the industry, a critical step in recognizing and promoting beer tourism.
 
His dedication to promoting South African beer extends both locally and internationally. Evident through his multifaceted roles, including co-editor of On Tap magazine, chairperson of the Helderberg Homebrew Club, partner at the popular Fools and Fans beer festival, and owner of Lunar Brew.
 
Since joining the CBASA committee in 2020, Craig has been a committed member, offering valuable insights and support. His engagement with the Beer Association of South Africa (BASA) as a consultant, particularly during the challenging pandemic period, further underscores his commitment to the broader industry’s well-being.
 
In his new capacity as Chairperson, Claassen will steer & grow the CBASA and represent the CBASA at the Beer Association of South Africa (BASA) Board meetings, ensuring the voice of craft brewers is effectively heard and considered at a national level.
 
We look forward to welcoming Craig into his new leadership role and we are confident that under his stewardship, the association will continue to champion the growth and success of the South African craft beer industry.
 
Craig will officially assume the role on 1 June 2025. During May, he will work alongside outgoing Chairperson Wendy to ensure a thorough and smooth handover.
