Head Brewer - Barrington’s Craft Brewery - Plettenberg Bay

Situated in Plettenberg Bay, Barrington’s is home to not only one of the largest craft breweries on the Garden Route, but a Small Hotel, Restaurant, Bar, Bakery, Wine Shop, incredible 1000m 2 organic Kitchen Garden and boutique Nursery.

The brewery features a state-of-the-art, five hundred litre brewhouse and ten thousand litres of fermentation tanks as well as a bottling facility.

The following 5 flagship Barrington’s beers - American Lager, German Hefeweizen, American Pale Ale, Irish Stout and English Ale as well as a range of seasonal, speciality beers are all available on tap at the showstopping Barrington’s bar as well as a number of other venues in and around Plettenberg Bay

In addition, the brewery also contract brews for a number of other Garden Route hospitality venues.

We are looking for an experienced, organised and passionate Head Brewer to manage all aspects of production, distribution and client liaison.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop themselves professionally within a fairly new and expanding operation and make their mark with new product development.


 3+ years experience of commercial brewing

 Ability to lead on recipe design and product development

 Ideally hold a relevant technical degree or diploma in Engineering or Brewing

 Bottling experience

 Lab work knowledge / experience  Glowing recent references

Barrington’s Craft Brewery is one part of a vibrant hospitality venture in one of South Africa’s foremost tourist destinations.

In addition to the technical skills and qualifications, all candidates must possess the following -

 Strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate both verbally and written

 Strong problem-solving skills

 Ability to work collaboratively in a team

 An adaptable and flexible nature  A strong passion for craft beers and the brewing industry

 A positive mindset

 A desire to continuously research new methods, processes and materials to improve quality, to optimise output and advise on new equipment specifications

 A willingness to represent the company at industry events and in-house as and when required

 Offer regular product training to Barrington’s staff and clients

 Work with directors to create and manage plans to increase annual output in line with agreed sales forecasts
